Introduction

Gaming laptops are one of the fastest growing segments of the PC market. In 2016, Asus was a major manufacturer of these types of devices.

Just last year alone, ASUS had its three gaming laptops i7 gaming notebooks and in 2017, the company introduced the Republic of Gamers (ROG) products which sport built-in liquid cooling systems to run all of its GPUs and CPU.

The ROG laptops have also reached cult status among PC enthusiasts, being the computer du jour for PC gaming enthusiasts and the go-to option for e-Sports gamers and online streamers.

➤ Design

The ROG Strix G15 G513 is very much a desktop replacement machine, with its large bezels, large chassis, and the large fan grilles. But Asus has managed to keep things looking tidy with a few design cues, including a large D-pad, which helps with gaming controls.

However, one major flaw is the back, which has numerous connector ports, including two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, an HDMI, an Ethernet and a power input.

Also, the right side of the laptop houses a charging port, two additional USB 3.0 ports and two more USB 2.0 ports, which is surprising as the G15 only comes with a single USB 3.0 port.

Hardware Overview

This new ROG laptop has the same basic design as the ROG Strix GL502. The laptop is not that heavy (although some users may struggle to carry it up to the room) and I am sure it won't crush too many bags.

The laptop has a sturdy steel structure with a matte finish. It comes in a gunmetal grey colour that looks fantastic. The keyboard, trackpad, and ports all look great, with sharp contrast. The lights on the keyboard are customisable as well.

The display is what you would expect from a gaming laptop. It is a 17.3-inch, Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS panel that's bright and vibrant, with a great viewing angle.

The screen can handle much more colour than the standard setting and is quick to adjust to dark scenes. Overall, the display is as good as the one on the GL502 and G502 I reviewed recently.

➤ Display

We had the top-end model, which sports a full-HD (1920 x 1080) IPS panel. The display on the ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021) is indeed very bright and colorful. Images look very vivid and it can even make the standard office settings look very appealing, in our opinion.

Sound

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021) has got pretty loud, loud enough for a game jam but quiet enough to be enjoyed without disturbing those around you. The booming metal exterior amplifies its sound but at the same time, it muffles the bass. Overall, it feels great to blast music at full blast with the fans at the back blowing right into your ears.

Asus ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021) Review:

Games Performance Asus ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021) is a top-end gaming laptop that comes with a powerful Intel Core i7-8750H processor and Nvidia GTX 1050Ti Max-Q GPU.

It performs really well on-screen and it can hold its own with the latest games on the market, although this performance does come with a drawback.

➤ Keyboard

Keyboard on ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021). Even though it's still quite a bit of volume off the metal body, it feels incredibly durable and has a satisfying feel to it. Keyboard. Keyboard on ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021).

Since the backlight seems to work rather well in a non-lit space, the keyboard itself is slightly illuminated by the backlight, giving it a good look. Lighting. In terms of the size, I like the keys, which are of very good size and offer good travel.

On my sample keyboard, it took me around 10 minutes to get used to the keys, but once I did, I could type at normal speeds. The only oddity I noticed is that in relation to the others I've used (aside from the X-large aluminum design), the keyboard feels rather shallow.

Gaming Performance & Battery Life

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 (2021) review: It's worth considering how this laptop handles multiple gaming sessions, especially with DirectX12, multi-threaded apps.

With quad-core Intel i7-7700HQ processor at 3.3GHz (4.1GHz Turbo), Intel HD Graphics 620 with Max-Q, and 16GB of RAM, this gaming laptop scores high on gaming performance.

I played Battlefront 2, Just Cause 3, and The Division at high settings with numerous threads and the 1080p 144Hz display. My HDDs and SSDs both sustained little to no load (no noticeable stuttering or jitter), so there is little doubt that this laptop can handle heavy-duty games like this.

The graphics card is a GeForce GTX 1060, with Max-Q Design technology and a new GPU Boost Mode that can go up to 1680MHz.
